Dr. Sellin uncovered a report showing that Chinese Dr. Shi Zhengli was part of a team that was working on a coronavirus project jointly with U.S. doctors in 2014. The team members included Dr. Ralph S. Baric from North Carolina. The project was eventually shut down by the U.S Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) for being too risky. After the US research project was shut down, Dr. Shi Zhengli continued her coronavirus research in Wuhan, China.

In 2014 DHHS sent a letter to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill announcing it was planning to defund the program. The DHHS letter identified Dr. Ralph S. Baric.
