Lines Grow At Food Pantries Accross The US As Insecurity And COVID Rises

The North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) and Tarran County Food Bank distributed more than 500,000 pounds of food on Saturday. Cars lined the freeway headed for the and drive-thru food pantry.  CBS News reports that Mitchell Ward, CEO of MW Logistics was the “brainchild” of MTFB’s largest food give away ever. An estimated 6,000 cars and 25,000 people were served. Many people are seeking g food assistance for the first time with at least 40 percent “coming through the doors new to them and due to COVID” said Anna Kurian, NTFB Senior Director of Marketing and Communications.

Communities across the US are lined up at food pantries.  Food insecurity has doubled in the US since the COVID-19 pandemic hit.  It has tripled for families with children according to the Institute for Policy Research (IPR) at Northwestern University, citing data from the US Census Bureau. As COVID-19 infection rates rise and economic instability increases more people are expected to become unemployed.  Disruptions in food production and food insecurity in the US is expected to grow.

The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad teaches us we must do for self. The book entitled How To Eat To Live warn us of the “poisonous food and water we are now eating and drinking”.  We must end our dependence on others to supply our food. Owning land, farming and agriculture can end our food insecurity.  The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan’s “The Time and What Must Be Done” lecture series Part 36 is entitled “Farming is the Engine of Your National Life”.
