Farming and Land Ownership Crucial To Building A Self-Sufficient Nation

Land ownership is a crucial ingredient to building generational wealth and improving black lives. America has denied Black people access to land ownership thru black codes, slave codes and wicked schemes devised to prohibit blacks from buying or renting land, except when whites were in control of it. The Southern Homestead Act allowed white immigrants, many of them Jewish to settle on 46 million acres of public lands. At the same time, blacks were denied the promised 40 acres and a mule; and had no right to own land in certain western states.

After slavery some blacks aquired land in the south, but most of it was lost as blacks were driven from their land, victimized by white debt and lynchings. “We are more dependent now for someone to feed, clothe and shelter us”, said The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. In his series Farrakhan Speaks, The Minister shares “The time and What Must Be Done” Part 36 “Farming is the engine of our national life”. Minister Farrakhan describes the significance of land ownership, farming and animal husbandry to building a self-sufficient nation.

The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad’s book “Message To The Black Man” explains The Nation of Islam’s Economic Program to end poverty and want. Muhammad’s Economic Blueprint focuses on pooling resources and creating jobs to end dependence and achieve self-sufficiency. The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad advises us to “Purchase real estate, buy farm and timberland”. We can’t pass on a legacy of dependency to our children, nor can we let our children be beggars to another. “We must do for self” said The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad.

The Honorable Minister Farrakhan said “Instead of looking down on a farner, we should respect that profession”. “We must become producers” he said. “We need 100 million acres of land to make a start in feeding our people”. “There is no freedom without owning land” said The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan”.
